Ngarrangarra gum midling: Language Centres meeting

First Languages Australia hosted a meeting of language centres and programs as part of PULiiMA’s workshop program. The meeting was attended by close to 100 language centre and partner representatives.

The gathering began with short presentations from First Languages Australia, language centres and partners, followed by small group discussions on the topics: language centre priorities, education, data and place names. The afternoon finished with time for networking and meeting with national partners, including the ABC, Australia and New Zealand Working Group on Place Names, Australian Government Department of Education, Directions Group for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, Indigenous Languages and Arts Program, Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA), Language Policy Partnership and Mayi Kuwayu Study.

The meeting was a vibrant and invaluable opportunity for language centre representatives to connect and reflect on their work. Language centres had not met in this way since 2019, and more frequent gatherings of this type were requested.
