Djukun - Priority Languages Support Project Highlight

Djukun Elders and the Djukun community embarked on a remarkable campaign together in 2023, then funded by Priority Languages Support Project for 2024/2025 to awaken their sleeping language from a century-old slumber.

Through the PLSP, the Djukun language team created a Djukun language audio dictionary, with over 1500 words recorded, with more to come. The creation of a Djukun audio language dictionary and audio dictionary companion book is a beacon
of hope for the preservation and continuation of our Djukun culture, language, and traditional way of life on Djukun Country.

Some of the Djukun language words were recorded and published in 50 words,
the 50-words in Djukun, a language of the West Kimberley. The book is a great learning resource, now being used by Djukun schoolchildren for cultural projects
at school.
